In Palermo, go to Piazza Bara dell’Olivella, where during the weekends you can meet all the locals filling up the pubs and enjoying the many live bands. It’s a great chance to mix with the people and above all, to learn the location of the amazing archeological museum of Palermo, just next door next to the pubs.
In the back of the museum you will discover the superb backdrop of the Opera House of Palermo (Teatro Massimo), which has a magic atmosphere at night. Its steps was the setting for a climactic scene in the film Godfather III. If you sit there you might find locals playing guitar and singing some popular English or American song. (For the younger generations it is more trendy to sing in English, rather than Italian or Sicilian!) Either way, you can sing along with them.
